The 2022 Barolo DOCG Bricco Ambrogio by Walter Lodali is a masterful expression of one of the northernmost and most distinctive cru in the entire Barolo area, located in the municipality of Roddi. This wine represents the perfect meeting between the structural power of Nebbiolo and an almost suspended aromatic finesse, typical of a terroir that benefits from privileged sun exposure and unique calcareous-clay soils. Born in the Bricco Ambrogio vineyard, a true enclave of excellence where the vines sink their roots into fossils of Sant’Agata marls. Here, Walter Lodali continues a family tradition that smells of land and hard work, interpreting the 2022 vintage with extreme clarity: despite the warmth of the season, the wine maintains a surprising freshness, the result of meticulous agricultural management aimed at preserving the fruit’s integrity and the verticality of the sip. Produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, the Bricco Ambrogio 2022 is the outcome of a winemaking approach that seeks no shortcuts. After a controlled-temperature fermentation with long macerations on the skins to extract noble tannins, the wine undergoes an aging of about 24 months in French oak casks. This passage in wood is dosed with sartorial care, serving as a training ground for the wine without ever overpowering its varietal identity. In the glass it presents a deep, intense garnet red; on the nose it expresses a complex and seductive bouquet, where dried rose and violet intertwine with notes of small red fruits, licorice, and a blood-and-mineral touch typical of the cru. On the palate it is powerful, austere yet of great balance, sustained by a dense and velvety tannin that leads to a finish of extraordinary persistence. A Barolo of great character and substance, intended for those who seek the depth of Roddi in a modern, elegant, and deeply territorial key.
