Frescobaldi – Leonia Pomino Brut 2022 Pomino Spumante Bianco DOC – Metodo Classico – Brut Millesimato Lot of 6 bottles of 0.75 L Leonia Pomino Brut 2022 is Frescobaldi’s prestigious Metodo Classico, produced at Castello Pomino, in the mountains northeast of Florence. It is a Tuscan sparkling wine with a strong territorial identity, obtained mainly from the meeting of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and characterized by elegance, freshness and a long aging on the lees. Leonia: a tribute to Frescobaldi’s history The name Leonia pays homage to Leonia degli Albizzi, great-grandmother of Lamberto Frescobaldi and a particularly innovative figure in the family’s history. It was Leonia herself who introduced French varieties and innovative winemaking techniques to Pomino. The Pomino winery, built according to the principle of gravity vinification, also earned a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1878. Frescobaldi presents Leonia today as an “audacious” wine, inspired precisely by the innovative spirit of its ancestor. Castello Pomino Leonia was born at Castello Pomino, one of the historic estates of the Frescobaldi family. The Pomino territory is particularly interesting for its altitude: the estate’s vineyards reach about 700 meters above sea level, a condition that favors freshness, acidity and aromatic finesse, features especially important in the production of white wines and Metodo Classico. The vintage 2022 The 2022 vintage was characterized by an early flowering and by a particularly long and hot summer. Precipitations arriving around mid-August played an important role in the final phase of ripening, contributing, according to Frescobaldi, to obtaining clear and particularly fragrant musts. Vinification – Metodo Classico The grapes are harvested by hand in 15 kg crates during the cooler hours of the day. Once in the cellar they undergo slow and delicate pressing, followed by a cold clarification of about 12 hours. The first fermentation takes place mainly in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, while a portion of the must is fermented in wood. Subsequently the different Chardonnay and Pinot Noir cuvées are assembled. With the addition of the liqueur de tirage, the second fermentation begins directly in the bottle, according to the Metodo Classico. This is followed by a long maturation on the lees, essential for developing complexity, fineness of the bubbles and the characteristic pastry and bread crust notes. At the end of the aging, remuage and dégorgement are carried out, followed by a further resting period in the bottle. Organoleptic characteristics Leonia Brut 2022 presents a deep straw yellow color and an extremely fine and persistent perlage. The bouquet is complex and elegant. On the nose citrus fruits and white flowers emerge at first, followed progressively by more evolved notes related to partial wooden fermentation and lees aging. Thus elegant hints of pastry and bread crust appear, enriching the aromatic profile without compromising its freshness. On the palate it is fresh, salty (sapid) and balanced, with a good correspondence between the olfactory and gustatory sensations. The finish is long and persistent. A Tuscan Metodo Classico of great personality Leonia is particularly interesting because it combines the traditional sparkling wine method with a high-altitude Tuscan terroir historically linked to French varieties. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, partial wooden fermentation and long lees aging give rise to a sparkler that leans more toward finesse, complexity and elegance than mere immediacy.
