2021 Frescobaldi

Tenuta Calimaia 2021 marks the return of the historic Frescobaldi family to Montepulciano, in one of the traditional areas most dedicated to producing Vino Nobile. The estate is located on the hills between Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia, in the Cervognano area. The vineyards surround the Monteliscione crest at about 300 meters above sea level. The soils, of Miocene origin and characterized by a significant clay presence, are particularly suited to Sangiovese, locally called Prugnolo Gentile, and contribute to the wine's structure, tannic component, and aging potential. The 2021 vintage is composed of 90% Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile) and 10% complementary red grape varieties. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified in stainless steel at controlled temperature, with spontaneous fermentation. The wine then matures for 24 months in 50-hectoliter oak barrels, followed by an additional 4 months of bottle aging. In the glass it presents a deep ruby red. The bouquet is predominantly fruity, with elegant notes of sour cherry, blackcurrant, cherry, and raspberry, accompanied by aromatic herbs and smoky hints of pepper, cloves, and cardamom. On the palate it is wide, fresh and balanced, with a well-present tannic texture and a long aromatic persistence. Lot of 6 bottles of 0.75 L, as shown in the photographs.
