2019 Clos des Papes

Le Châteauneuf-du-Pape white 2019 Clos des Papes embodies the signature of Domaine Paul Avril, one of the most respected references of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the Southern Rhône Valley. The estate produces only one red and one white, in a spirit of fidelity to the terroir and a constant pursuit of precision. This white wine is crafted from a harmonious blend of six white grape varieties authorized in the appellation, notably Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, and Bourboulenc. The estate’s plots, spread across different sectors of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, provide diversity, depth, and expression of Rhône terroir. In the glass, Clos des Papes White 2019 shows a beautiful golden hue. The nose is broad and seductive, with notes of pear, quince, white fruits, citrus, honey, white flowers, and fine aniseed touches. The palate is rich, full, and textured, carried by a generous yet fresh mouthfeel that balances the wine’s opulence. The finish is long, savory, and slightly spicy. This Châteauneuf-du-Pape white is aimed at lovers of great gastronomic whites. Serve around 13 °C with turbot, sole, shellfish, a fish-filled pastry, crème-covered poultry, or a well-aged goat cheese. With its fine structure and remarkable concentration, this 2019 vintage has real ageing potential and can continue to develop complexity over the years. It is a rare cuvée, ideal for a grand table, an exceptional gift, or a collector’s cellar."
