Discover Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Extra Brut VP Champagne, an exceptional cuvée from one of the most respected estates in the Montagne de Reims. ‘VP’ stands for ‘Vieillissement Prolongé’ (extended ageing): this champagne is aged for over seven years on fine lees, a rare display of patience that lends it depth, finesse and remarkable ageing potential. Its blend consists of 70 per cent Pinot Noir and 30 per cent Chardonnay, sourced exclusively from the Grand Cru terroirs of Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay. These clay-limestone soils, rich in chalk, lend the wine a characteristic mineral tension, whilst the predominance of Pinot Noir gives it structure, intensity and depth. Vinified and matured in oak barrels, this cuvée expresses a style that is at once precise, full-bodied and refined. The nose reveals notes of dried fruit, brioche, pastries, toasted almonds and toast, enhanced by mineral nuances and a delicate freshness. On the palate, the attack is lively and taut, the texture full-bodied and silky, supported by fine effervescence. The long, lingering finish combines citrus, ripe fruit, hazelnut and an elegant chalky note. With its Extra Brut dosage of around 2 g/L, this Champagne emphasises the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir rather than a sweet, rounded flavour. It is the ideal bottle for lovers of characterful Champagnes who are looking for a gastronomic cuvée that is complex and capable of ageing well in the cellar for many years. Food and wine pairings: perfect as an aperitif, it pairs brilliantly with grilled or sauced fish, seafood, poultry, white meats, mature cheeses or fine charcuterie.
