19th C. Chinese Qing Dynasty Pewter & Greenstone Teapot

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty. A bell-shaped Chinese teapot with a pewter body, fitted with a pale celadon greenstone spout, a greenstone handle carved like a branch, and a flat greenstone disc finial on the domed lid. Columns of calligraphy are incised into the pewter on one side. Larger characters in an archaizing, seal-like script sit beside smaller lines in regular script. The reverse is incised with a landscape scene. Pairing antiquarian epigraphy with brush-style engraving matches the scholarly taste of 19th century teaware. Item # 205728
