1999 Domaine Laroche "Réserve de l'Obédience“ - Burgundy

Points: 93pts. Wine Spectator. Fill level: into the neck. Label condition: excellent. Capsule condition: excellent. Bottle size: 0,75L. Bottler: Domaine Laroche (estate bottled). Stunning and rare original wooden case (OWC) containing 6 bottles of 1999 Chablis Grand Cru "Réserve de l'Obédience", produced by the historic Domaine Laroche. This cuvée represents the producer's pinnacle of quality and embodies the very history of the Chablis appellation. The name pays tribute to the Obédiencerie de Chablis, an ancient 9th-century monastery (dating back to 867) where Benedictine monks planted the region's first vineyards. Today, these millenary underground cellars are the heart of Domaine Laroche, where these wines undergo their long aging process. The "Réserve de l'Obédience" is crafted from a rigorous selection of the estate's finest Grand Cru barrels—mostly from the prestigious Les Blanchots climat—masterfully blended to combine deep chalky minerality with extraordinary complexity. The label statement "Mis en bouteille au Domaine par Laroche" legally certifies that the entire process, from harvest to final bottling, took place at the estate within the historic cellars in Chablis. The 1999 vintage was a classic and superb year in Burgundy, granting this reserve monumental longevity. Awarded an excellent 93/100 by Wine Spectator, these bottles are now in their perfect drinking window (ready to drink), showing a beautifully complex stage of evolutionary maturity typical of great historic Chardonnays.
