All auctions / Wine & Spirits / 1985 Domaine Rapet Père & Fils - Corton Grand Cru - 3 Bottles (0.75L)

A premium red wine from Burgundy located in the commune of Aloxe-Corton. The grape variety is Pinot Noir. The vines are 50 years old. Red winemaking: we seek fruity and rich wines with tannins that are approachable, as produced by well-matured grapes. We bring the grapes in in small crates, to allow meticulous sorting at the winery; a conveyor belt helps us fill the vats while respecting the grapes. Fermentation lasts 15 days with punch-downs so that the richness and the color from the skins are transmitted to the wine before pressing. The aging takes place in barrels, with 20% in new barrels. Racking with a bellows eliminates the use of a pump. All these precautions help minimise handling of the grape and wine in order to preserve all their richness. Terroir: the Corton hill rises to the north of Beaune. Corton is a compound meaning "the court of Othon." The term cortis, denoting the enclosure, the farmyard in medieval Latin, became the equivalent of the Gallo-Roman villa to designate a domain whose owner originally belonged to the Frankish aristocracy. Corton sits on the south-facing slope of the hill. In the Côte de Beaune, it is the only red Grand Cru. Corton is produced on two climats, Corton Combes (valleys), Corton Les Chaumes (stony plateaus) and La Voie Rosse (an old form of "rousse" likely referring to ferruginous soil).
