The Bultaco adventure began with a disagreement. In the late 1950s, Francesc Xavier ‘Paco’ Bultó was at the helm of Montesa, one of the most prominent brands on the Spanish motorcycling scene. When the management decided to pull out of racing, he strongly opposed the move: for him, racing was the best way to develop the machines and build their reputation. So he stormed out, followed by several of the company’s engineers, mechanics and riders. In 1958, he founded his own brand, Bultaco, in Sant Adrià de Besòs, on the outskirts of Barcelona. The 1966 TSS 250 Mod.24 was a featherweight at just 86 kilograms, with its 13-litre fuel tank, 18-inch wheels, six-speed gearbox and Amal 389 GP carburettors. The result: 38 chevaux at 9,500 rpm. This time, water cooling was chosen, on the valuable advice of New Zealand rider Ginger Molloy. This machine went on to achieve impressive results in the World Championship, with strong performances at several Grands Prix in 1966 in the 250 cc class. The year 1966 marked the beginning of success for the Spanish manufacturer and its rider, Gyula Marsovszky. He secured fifth place at the Czechoslovakian Grand Prix and an impressive second place at the Ulster Grand Prix. This Swiss rider, originally from Hungary, marked the debut of a high-performance model by finishing the season in twelfth place in the 250cc World Championship. Building on his experience and training, he secured eighth place in the 1967 championship, which would remain his best year with Bultaco. A sound and very well-maintained machine, enhanced by remarkably well-preserved aesthetics. A true collector’s item, this motorcycle, steeped in meaning and history, is a jewel of Spain’s motorcycling heritage. Notably, it retains its original Dunlop Racing tyres, reference numbers KR73/KR76, in sizes 2.75-18 at the front and 3.00/3.25-18 at the rear. These tyres, characteristic of the competition machines of this ‘Triangular’ generation, play a key role in the bike’s authenticity and historical presentation.
