On the nose, notes of dried orange peel and sweet spices were evident, along with red fruit, tobacco, and a pleasant earthy touch. On the palate, it retained plenty of fruit and was delightful to drink. It improved during the first 30 minutes in the glass but began to fade gradually after a couple of hours. In hindsight, I think letting it breathe slowly was the right decision. 1970: Cellar trackerd: 91,2 points. "The wine was a medium garnet color, watery at the edges, and had a fine sediment. It offered aromas of dried fruit, dried cherry, old leather boots, smoked eel, mushrooms, earth, tobacco, and exotic spices. On the palate, the wine displayed cherry, coffee, tobacco, mushrooms, earth, spices, and cinnamon, with high acidity. 1973: Cellar trackerd: 90,2 points: "Classic, and still retaining plenty of fruit. Freshly opened, it was pure fruit. Notes of damp undergrowth, wood, and shady woodland.On the palate, it is pure silk—roundness at its finest. Sweetish—surprisingly sweetish. It invites you to drink more; it makes your mouth water. There is noticeable acidity. Incredible: 50 years under its belt, yet still full of life". Perfect label, cork, capsule. Level: very good.
