Viña Pomal Cosecha 1959 (3 Bottles) Bodegas Bilbainas - (Haro, La Rioja) D.O.: RIOJA Rioja Vintage Rating 1959: VERY GOOD "Bodegas Bilbainas was established in 1901, when a group of Bilbao businessmen bought the winery from the French producers who had created it in 1859 as a result of the phylloxera crisis in Bordeaux. A reference brand for Rioja red wine for many years, currently Bodegas Bilbainas is the largest vineyard owner in the Rioja Alta, with more than 250 hectares located in the municipality of Haro. Since its origins, the winery has specialized in estate wines that it produces based on the type of soil, orientation and age of the vines, and includes three major brands with which it responds to the classic profile of La Rioja and the new trends of the market: La Vicalanda, Viña Pomal and Viña Zaco. Planted for the first time at the beginning of the 20th century, the Viña Pomal vineyard is today a 120-hectare estate whose oldest vines date back to 1971. Combining traditional practices with more advanced viticulture, the winery especially cultivates the Tempranillo variety. , but also others such as Graciano, Garnacha and Viura. With this raw material and after careful aging processes in American oak Bordeaux barrels, Viña Pomal offers some of the wines most faithful to the classic style of La Rioja."
