1946 Toro Albalá

1946 Toro Albalá

+++ No grouping of lots. Each lots ships individually +++ 1 x Bottle of 1946 Don Px Convento Selección from Toro Albalá winery in Montilla Moriles DO. Bottle number 118 from 825 produced (ultra limited quantity). This bottle is the one firstly marketed/bottled in 2011 and was purchased at the Toro Albalá winery directly, the first 100 bottles prior were kept internally. This is probably the best Pedro Ximenez ever made. Period. Pure perfection for the absolute connaisseur. Bottle is in almost mint condition except a tiny crack on the back of the wax capsule as per pictures not affecting the wine at all. From our private stock collection - Kept in our controlled temperature cellar in pristine conditions. About Don PX Convento Seleccion 1946 Valued for being rare, deep and very sweet, elaborated with 100% Pedro Ximénez raisined grape clusters. The origin of this exceptional wine is the result of Antonio Sánchez’s personal choice and decision over the bottling’s most favourable time. It’s an authentic gem of our winery, distinguished with 100 Robert Parker points, the first sweet wine to receive this recognition. “Convento Selección” are wines that have aged for generations in amontillado butts so that the wine and wood could merge with time and result into an unmatchable flavour. Our bottling system is called “Convento Selección” in honour to the Cistercian monk system in which the wine is classified in their own series. The entire elaboration is handmade, following San Benito’s Recula Rule: “Living off the work of our hands.” Tasting Notes 100 Points Wine Advocate (2021) The 1946 Don PX Convento Seleccion produced with Pedro Ximenez grapes dehydrated under the sun at the time of the Second World War, was only bottled in September 2011. This is an extreme wine, my first descriptor was ultra-mega-super concentrated. It is unbelievably powerful, both in the nose and the palate, full of umami, with sweet cinnamon, Christmas cake, camphor, petrol, lemongrass, Belgian chocolate and butter. Incredibly complex and rich, sweet, balanced and smooth in the palate, it is both very sweet and somehow salty, and with time it develops a black olive note. It combines the texture of the 1962 and the elegance of the 1949. It is as decadent as it gets. 825 bottles were produced. This wine will survive all of us. These wines are kept for generations and offered in very small quantities, but it’s amazing that you can still buy and drink something so old, and I’m even tempted to say that it might represent good value for what it is. A real tour de force sweet wine. Drink it if you ever have the privilege to do so from 2013-2060. Shipping is from/to EU MAINLAND ONLY (no islands) in certified protective cardbox.
