Exceedingly Rare 1919-D Half Dollar in PCGS/CAC MS-65 1919-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar. MS-65 (PCGS). CAC. CMQ. Here is a fabulous condition rarity and highly desirable coin in a Gem Uncirculated example of the key date 1919-D half dollar. Both sides display abundant luster, the surfaces satiny in texture and enhanced by wonderfully original toning in golden-orange, champagne-pink and powder blue. Boldly to sharply struck throughout with a remarkably smooth appearance in a survivor of this challenging issue. In Mint State this is the third rarest issue of its type, surpassed by only the 1921-S and 1919-S. However, it is a severe strike rarity, with most Uncirculated examples flatly struck in the centers and limited to grades well below Gem. From a mintage of just 1,165,000 pieces, this well struck piece is highly significant as not only a condition rarity in PCGS MS-65, but one of the two highest graded 1919-D half dollars to have secured coveted CAC approval. The other is also certified PCGS/CAC MS-65, and most recently sold at auction in Heritage's January 2018 offering of the Steven L. Duckor Collection of Walking Liberty Half Dollars, where it realized a phenomenal $240,000. We expect its counterpart from the Mack C. Chase Collection, offered here, to see equally spirited bidding as it transitions into another world-class Walking Liberty half dollar cabinet. Provenance: From the Mack C. Chase Collection. PCGS Population: 10; with a single MS-66 finer. CAC Stickered Population: 2; 0 finer. PCGS# 6578. NGC ID: 24PZ. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
