1908 Bodegas Miguel Llorens

A rare 19th-century bottle. Please refer to the photographs for condition details. Fully mature and drinking beautifully now, yet with the structure and stability to remain in the cellar for several more decades. This is not a solera wine, but a 100% vintage 1908 bottling. This exceptionally rare, 118-year-old Dry Rancio was produced from grapes grown by the former Miguel Llorens winery in Priorat, from vineyards that no longer exist today. Only a very small number of these Garnacha Priorato bottles were ever made, originally reserved for the winemaker’s family and close friends. Vinified in 1908 and bottled in the mid-1940s, the wine was made from passerillé — naturally raisined — old-vine grapes and fermented slowly with native yeasts over several years. It was then aged outdoors in glass demijohns and ancient casks, exposed to marked seasonal temperature changes before being transferred to cellars with passive temperature control. The barrels were never topped up and no sulphur was added, allowing a rare veil of flor to develop in some casks. Through natural evaporation, the wine became progressively more concentrated, while its acidity and alcohol levels stabilized. The result is a deeply complex, oxidative wine with remarkable natural resistance to spoilage and an extraordinary capacity for long ageing. Over time, it is natural that sediment will form at the bottom of this wine. Sudden movements can cause the wine's color to become cloudy.
