Key Date 1904-S Morgan Dollar 1904-S Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-65+ (PCGS). This is an outstanding Gem example of an issue that is scarce even in lower Mint State grades. Dusted with delicate rose-russet iridescence that appears to drift toward the borders, plenty of silvery mint brilliance remains to be appreciated on both sides. Both sides exhibit a smooth frosty texture that is sure to please even the most discerning numismatist. Boldly struck and carefully preserved, this coin belongs in one of the finest silver dollar cabinets. The 1904-S is one of the most elusive Morgan dollars in all grades, as much of the mintage of 2,304,000 pieces was likely melted under the Pittman Act in 1918. Release of coins from federal storage was limited and came to an end during the 1950s; there were none in the Treasury Department releases of 1962 to 1964. As one of the finest examples seen by PCGS, this lovely coin represents a significant find for advanced collectors specializing in this popular series. PCGS Population: 22; 29 finer in this category (MS-67 finest). PCGS# 7294. NGC ID: 256W. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
