All auctions / Asian Art / 18th Century Portuguese School - Virgin of Carmen

Descriptio Polychrome and gilded carved wood. The Virgin of Carmen, holding the Child Jesus in her arms, dressed in gilded robes detailed with embossed embroidery, stands on a cloud adorned with cherubs. The Child holds a small globe, a symbol of her dominion over the world, while the Virgin wears a scapular. 18th-century Portuguese imagery emphasizes Marian devotion, using polychromy and gilding to intensify the spirituality of the figures. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
