1865 Pattern Indian Cent. Judd-404, Pollock-473, Snow-PT1. Rarity-7-. Copper-Nickel. Plain Edge. Proof-64 (PCGS). CAC. The obverse and reverse designs are the same that the Mint used to coin regular issue 1865 Indian cents of the Plain 5 date style. These were deliberately made for sale to collectors, "probably being struck on leftover planchets for 1859-1864 Indian Cents," as related on the uspatterns.com website. This premium quality near-Gem Proof is one of about a dozen or so examples known for the Judd-404 attribution. It is a satiny to semi-reflective example dressed in soft tan-gold and pale olive colors. PCGS Population: 3; 5 finer in this category (all Proof-65). CAC Stickered Population: 2; 2. PCGS# 60581. NGC ID: 29HN. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
