1864 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1. Rarity-2. EF-45 (PCGS). A minimally patinated example of this challenging issue. Both sides are boldly to sharply defined overall with plenty of frosty mint luster retained. From a trifling mintage of 30,700 pieces, bullion for which primarily came from imports as opposed to domestic production, which would become a major factor in silver dollar coinage after 1867. The 1864 is the most frequently encountered of the Civil War era Liberty Seated dollar issues, but circulated survivors are scarce in an absolute sense and eagerly sought.
