1863 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1. Rarity-3-. AU-55 (PCGS). Silver dollar coinage was limited in 1863, when bullion depositors requested only 27,200 coins for use in the export trade. This continued a trend that began after the outbreak of war with the bombardment of Fort Sumter in 1861. Only several hundred examples of the 1863 are extant in all grades, and it is one of the rarest Civil War era Liberty Seated dollars along with the 1861 and 1862. Circulated survivors are elusive irrespective of grade, most being in EF and AU. This frosty, sharply defined example, then, is a fleeting bidding opportunity worthy of serious pursuit. Lightly toned. Provenance: From a Collection of American Silver Classics. PCGS# 6953. NGC ID: 24Z6. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
