1860-D Gold Dollar. Winter 12-P. AU-50 (PCGS). This gold dollar offers above average preservation for the elusive and challenging 1860-D issue. Frosty to semi-reflective with warm golden-honey color, this example also displays impressively bold striking detail on Liberty's portrait. The reverse wreath is also crisp save for areas of bluntness at the ribbon knot, as is typical, an at upper left. The center on that side allows ready appreciation of all elements in the denomination 1 DOLLAR and date 1860, although the digits 86 are soft. The obverse periphery is characteristically incomplete for the issue, with the letters UN in UNITED all but absent. The offered coin is a desirable representative of one of the most challenging dates in this Southern gold series. PCGS# 7556. NGC ID: 25CS. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
