1849 Lieutenant Colonel Bliss, Mexican-American War Medal. Julian MI-28. Bronze. MS-61 BN (NGC). 70.5 mm. Perhaps the rarest entry in the Julian Military medal series for the Mexican-American War. Superb choice chocolate brown with glossy surfaces and hints of pale blue. Ideal surface quality, a single tiny mark is noted on Bliss's jaw, minor rim bruise above the letters TA in VISTA on the reverse. The last specimen of this medal we offered, in our June 2026 Showcase Auction, brought $5,368. In total our online archives going back at least 20 years include only three entries for MI-28, including an earlier appearance of the specimen offered here. Rare. Provenance: From the Henry Mitchell Collection. Earlier from our Baltimore Auction of March 2014, lot 28. Click here for certification details from NGC.
