1820 North West Company Token. Rulau-E Ore 1A, W-9250. Rarity-4. Brass. Fine-12 (PCGS). 134.3 grains. Pierced for suspension at 12 o'clock, as issued. Both sides are medium golden-olive brown in color, some areas of darker toning visible at and toward the borders. Some light porosity can be seen, very common for the type. Detail is boldest at the peripheries, but the central motifs are fully appreciable with some finer detail to the effigy on the obverse. All in all, a nice brass striking of the challenging North West Company token, and one with an impressive numismatic provenance further enhancing its desirability. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier ex Ralph J. Lathrop (Carmel, New York), August 23, 1967; John J. Ford, Jr.; our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part II, May 2004, lot 253; Heritage's sale of the Troy Wiseman Collection, Part II, January 2007 FUN Signature Auction, lot 235. PCGS# 952. NGC ID: 2B6H.
