1808 Washington Benevolent Society Medal. Musante GW-94, Baker-327

1808 Washington Benevolent Society Medal. Musante GW-94, Baker-327, Julian RF-23. Silver. AU-50 (PCGS). 42.0 mm. Pierced for suspension. Attractive light silver gray surfaces are suitably lustrous for the grade. Wispy handling marks include no singularly mentionable blemishes, although a minor planchet flaw in the field behind the "good samaritan" and a small carbon spot in the right field area on the same side are noted for accuracy. A lightly, and generally gently handled example of this important society badge, struck at the U.S. Mint from dies by John Reich. The integral hanger is lost, as is frequently the case with these. Provenance: From the Eleventh Annual C-4 Convention Sale, November 2005, lot 443; our sale of the Ken Beukelaer Collection of Washington Pieces, August 2023 Global Showcase Auction, lot 2071.
