1793 Liberty Cap Half Cent. Head Left. C-4. Rarity-3. VF Details--Corrosion Removed (PCGS). Manley Die State 2.0, Fuhrman Die State 2. While some 1,500 half dismes and patterns were struck under the auspices of the fledgling United States Mint in 1792, it was not until 1793 that the first half cents and large cents were struck for circulation. This is a universally bold example of the Head Left Liberty Cap half cent design type that saw moderate commercial use. Curiously glossy in texture from smoothing associated with corrosion removal, the obverse exhibits mottled charcoal-copper and golden-brown retoning, the reverse is dark charcoal-copper around a swirl of pinkish-rose at center. PCGS# 1000. NGC ID: 2222. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
