1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 59-o, W-5325. Rarity-5+. No Sprig Above

1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 59-o, W-5325. Rarity-5+. No Sprig Above Plow, Sawtooth. Large Planchet. VG Details--Tooled (PCGS). 133.6 grains. SHI DS2. Generally sharply defined around the peripheries, where the distinct sawtooth border is clearly seen, centers soft due to die swell, original planchet pits and roughness retained within the shield on the reverse. Evenly patinated medium copper brown surfaces are microgranular overall, but the most significant detractions are fine pin scratches on the horse head, deeper scratches and scrapes at upper left and lower right reverse that explain the PCGS qualifier. When die state is taken into consideration, this coin appears better than VG Details for a Maris 59-o, and it will surely catch the eye of astute New Jersey copper enthusiasts. Provenance: From the John Bolger Collection. Purchased from Anthony Terranova, November 15, 2012. PCGS# 509. NGC ID: AUL8. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
