1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 43-d, W-5225. Rarity-1. No Sprig Above

1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 43-d, W-5225. Rarity-1. No Sprig Above Plow, Bulbous Nose. AU-50 (PCGS). Hard, satiny surfaces are on a choice planchet that is free of flaws and defects. Nicely composed despite having seen light commercial use, as well, both sides are smooth in the absence of marks. Denticulation is scant at lower left obverse, upper left reverse, the impression slightly off center in those directions. Otherwise, however, this is an expertly produced example with a uniformly sharp strike that imparted sharp bold to full detail throughout the design. This Maris number is chosen as a type coin as much as any New Jersey die marriage, and this is a particularly solid and attractive PCGS-certified AU-50 that is worthy of strong bids. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. PCGS# 506. NGC ID: AUL8. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
