1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 37-f, W-5155. Rarity-4. No Sprig Above Plow, Goiter. Fine-15 (PCGS). OGH. SHI DS4. Blended autumn-orange and olive-brown with deeper steely-charcoal in and around the central reverse associated with old, hard surface scale. A few faint marks are present, all contemporary to this coin's circulation, none recent, and none discernible during in-hand viewing. More significant is overall light to moderate porosity that is a bit more pronounced on the obverse. Some peripheral features are faint and difficult to discern, but the major design elements are bold, including the date, horse's head, and the prominent "goiter" break below the snout. All in all this is a suitable circulated example of this popular Guide Book variety, certain to appeal to many New Jersey copper enthusiasts and more general type collectors. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. PCGS# 509. NGC ID: AUL8. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
