1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6.1-M, W-2820. Rarity-1. Mailed Bust

1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6.1-M, W-2820. Rarity-1. Mailed Bust Left, First Laughing Head. AU-55 (PCGS). 122.9 grains. Handsomely original surfaces are dressed in medium olive-copper brown on the obverse, reverse a bit lighter in dominant autumn-orange brown, but with blushes of olive-copper at lower right. A few minor impurities in the planchet explain the short streaks of charcoal on the obverse, flan more significantly flawed at the reverse border before and into the letter E in ET, the effects of which can also be seen on the obverse at the final letter C in CONNEC. There is a touch of microgranularity on the latter side, also a few faint scratches at and before the effigy's profile, but the surfaces are otherwise hard, tight, and frosty in texture with some nice gloss. Centering on both sides is good, detail universally sharp where allowed by the flan flaw, reverse rotated approximately 20 degrees clockwise from coin alignment. This is a well produced Miller number with several high grades pieces known, that offered here equally desirable for type and variety purposes. Provenance: From the John Bolger Collection. Purchased from Anthony Terranova, April 2003. PCGS# 358. NGC ID: 2B2W. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
