1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 37.1-cc.1, W-4100. Rarity-4. Draped Bust Left, ETLIR. AU-50 (PCGS). Generally walnut brown surfaces with a few glints of olive-gray to the high points of the effigy on the obverse. For the reverse we note a swirl of crimson scale and associated planchet roughness at lower right, over and outside the shield and also involving the blundered letter R in LIR which, however, remains plainly evident. Softness in the centers is as made, as is a minor planchet lamination at upper reverse, through the seated figure's head. The strike is otherwise well executed for the type, with good centering on both sides. There are no post-production marks to distract. PCGS# 391. NGC ID: 2B36.
