1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 1.1-A, W-2700. Rarity-3. Mailed Bust Right, Small Head, ETLIB INDE. VF-30 (PCGS). A smooth and glossy walnut brown example with superior eye appeal relative to the assigned grade. Intermingled reddish-copper peripheral highlights and hints of faded mint frost add further appeal. The obverse impression is off center to 7 o'clock with no border denticulation at lower left, reverse off center to 10 o'clock with denticulation beyond the flan at upper left. Strike is typically soft in the centers, especially on the reverse, but none of the usual planchet roughness is seen. Scattered marks are more prevalent on that side, but even here they blend nicely into the overall fabric of the coin and are easily overlooked during in-hand viewing. Not a major rarity by any standard - the Emerald Coast collector obtained two examples - yet an iconic Guide Book variety in the Connecticut copper series, and a lovely coin at the certified Choice Very Fine grade level. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier from Heritage's Long Beach Signature Auction of June 2017, lot 3015. PCGS# 346. NGC ID: AVKV. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
