1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 4.1-G, W-2525. Rarity-3. Mailed Bust Left. VF-25 (PCGS). 132.2 grains. Nicely toned in moderately deep olive-copper, the surfaces appear fairly smooth during in-hand appreciation. Close inspection with a loupe is required to see a fine layer of granularity to both sides, as well as a light vertical scrape and a few tiny marks in and around the central obverse. A minor planchet lamination on the obverse bisects the top of the letter T in AUCTORI, reverse more substantially flawed within the seated figure's legs, around the pole, and at the digit 7 in the date. Obverse impression off center to 5 o'clock with the border engaging the tops of the letters NEC in CONNEC, reverse similarly aligned to 3 o'clock, right border into the tops of the letters in ET LIB. Provenance: From the John Bolger Collection. Earlier from McCawley-Grellman's Eighth Annual C-4 Convention Sale, November 2002, lot 83. PCGS# 686827. BASE PCGS# 331. NGC ID: 2B2G.
