1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 24-K, W-1570. Rarity-2. Period After GEORGIVS, 7 Harp Strings. MS-62 BN (PCGS). OGH. Bold tobacco-brown patina on surfaces that are a bit subdued to help explain the MS-62 numeric grade from PCGS. A hint of microgranularity is seen under close scrutiny, as well, and there are hazy silver overtones scattered about which find greatest expression at left obverse periphery and near the lower reverse border. We see only a single readily evident carbon spot in the left obverse field, and no significant marks. All-in-all a handsome piece at the assigned grade level, and a suitable Mint State type coin in With Period Virginia halfpenny. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. PCGS# 240. NGC ID: 2ATK.
