1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 23-R, W-1565. Rarity-4. Period After GEORGIVS, 7 Harp Strings. MS-63 RB (PCGS). 121.2 grains. A pleasing example, the obverse about 50%, the reverse nearly 80% mint red. The balance of the coin is warmly and originally toned in olive-gray brown. There are a few light obverse flecks, but no significant marks, and the eye appeal is strong. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier ex F.C.C. Boyd estate; John J. Ford, Jr.; our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part VII, January 2005, lot 114. PCGS# 241. NGC ID: 2ATK. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
