The pieces of porcelain mark St. Alexander Nevsky and the palace at Ropsha from 1855-1881, which is south-west of central Saint Petersburg.

St. Alexander Nevsky, 1221– 1263, is one of Russia's greatest historical figures. He became an icon after his military efforts and defeats against German and Swedish invaders.

In 1547 he was canonised a saint of the Russian Orthodox Church by Metropolite Macarius.
