R.O. Schmitt Fine Arts’ annual spring auction, May 19-20, features clocks, watches and related horological material

R.O. Schmitt Fine Arts will hold its annual spring auction of clocks, watches and related horological material May 19th and 20th, online and at the Downtown Manchester Hotel in Manchester, N.H. The sale comprises over 1,190 lots and will include American and European clocks and watches, an important collection of decorative and complicated carriage clocks, a substantial collection of marine and pocket chronometers and precision watches, navigational instruments, watch and clock material and tools, music boxes, small antiques, jewelry, daguerreotypes and other items relating to photography.

R. O. Schmitt’s antique auctions typically feature clocks, watches, jewelry, music boxes and scientific instruments. The firm is a member of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors and the National Auctioneers’ Association. Robert Schmitt, the eponymous founder, bought his first clock over 50 years ago at Schmidt's Antiques in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and has been collecting clocks and watches ever since. In 2008, Daniel Horan, the current owner, with over 20 years’ experience in the horological auction field, joined R. O. Schmitt Fine Arts. Fine art, antiques, 20th century design and classic cars all up for bid at Abell Auction Company on Sunday, May 20th

Abell Auction Company will conduct a fine art, antiques, 20th century design and classic vehicle auction on Sunday, May 20th, online and in the firm’s Los Angeles gallery, at 10 am Pacific time. The auction will be highlighted by a collection of classic cars, including a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, a 1967 Chevrolet Malibu Sport Coupe, two 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS convertibles and a 1931 Austin American. Antiques will feature a pair of mirrored Venetian consoles and mirrors, two French Regence style giltwood mirrors and a French Louis XV/XVI transitional green painted commode.

Sculptures will include works signed by Edward Berge, Felipe Castaneda, Henry Moore, Edith Barreto Parsons, Maurice Prost, Emile Arthur Soldi-Colbert, Bruno Zach and Francisco Zuniga. Steinway & Sons pianos will also be offered, as will paintings and drawings signed or attributed to Ramiro Arrue (2), Dulio Barnabé (2), Jules Cavaillès (2), Michel Delacroix, Peter Ellenshaw, Ettore Forti, Jean-Richard Goubie, Ali Hassan, Charlotte Hublier; George Inness, William Keith, Thomas Kinkade (2), Sir Edwin Henry Landseer, Jean-Marc Nattier, Saul Steinberg (3), Theo Tobiasse (2), and Robert Wood (2).
