A 1932 Lionel #177 Scenic Railway store display, 78 inches by 57 inches, all original, sold for $12,000 at a Spring Spectacular held April 14th by Milestone Auctions in Willoughby, Ohio. Also, a German clockwork Uncle Sam Easter rabbit, composition with glass eye and teeth, 25 inches tall, fetched $4,920; a Mohair-bearded German Santa Claus candy container in white robe, 22 inches tall, brought $4,680; and an American Flyer Presidential train chugged off for $2,160. Charles Fazzino oil painting, $5,715, The Benefit Shop Fndn.

A rare and early folk art oil painting by Charles Fazzino (N.Y., b. 1955), dated 1983 and 13 inches by 11 inches, sold for $5,715 at an auction held April 18th by The Benefit Shop Foundation in Mount Kisco, N.Y. It was a new auction record for the artist. Also, a limited edition stone litho portfolio by Kathe Kollwitz (German, 1867-1945), with 23 lithographs of the artist’s work, made $2,857; and Joe Taylor’s recreation of Buckwheat Zydeco’s Hey Joe album cover hit $2,413. Prices include the buyer’s premium.


French Belle Epoque vitrine, $468,750, Potomack Company

A French Belle Epoque ormolu-mounted kingwood marquetry and parquetry vitrine attributed to Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener, made around 1895 with mounts by Leon Message, sold for $468,750 at an auction held January 27th by the Potomack Company in Alexandria, Va. Also, a pair of Louis XV style ormolu mounted mahogany and marquetry pedestals by Francois Linke, circa 1905, brought $250,000; and a set of 12 Minton dinner plates, retailed by Tiffany & Co., fetched $12,500. Toulouse-Lautrec poster, $78,000, Posters International

A poster by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (Fr., 1864-1901), titled Reine de Joie (1892) sold for $78,000 at Auction #74 held February 25th by Posters Auction International in New York City. Also, one of four Seasons posters in the sale by Alphonse Mucha (Fr., 1860-1939), this one for winter (1896), brought $60,000; a 1929 poster by Roger Broders (Fr., 1883-1953), titled Dunkerque, realized $26,400; and a poster for the 1959 film La Dolce Vita by Girogio Olivetti fetched $19,200. 18th c. English oil painting, $12,187, Litchfield County

An 18th century English oil painting of an Arabian horse in a landscape setting with a manor house sold for $12,187 at a Winter Sale held February 24th by Litchfield County Auctions in Litchfield, Conn. Also, a painting by African American artist Romare Bearden (1911-1988), titled Piano Lesson, brought $8,125; a primitive English oak three-legged armchair, made circa 1600, hit $4,125; and a Poul Cadovious CADA Mid-Century Modern wall unit changed hands for $4,500. Prices include the buyer’s premium.
