Also featured are hand-corrected pages from the Mersey Beat magazine; drawings and a 9 page hand-written manuscript of the short story The Singularge Experience of Miss Anne Duffield. The short story was a take-off of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series, Lennon whimsically named his protagonists Shamrock Womlbs and Doctored Whopper. This piece is estimated at an impressive £42,000.

Maschler was the first to persuade Lennon to compile his writings for a book. He said after his first meeting with Lennon in 1963, 'I had to inspire in [John] the confidence to write and produce his drawings.' Maschler went on to work with Salman Rushdie and Ian McEwan during his time at Jonathan Cape.

Sotheby's will be auctioning the pieces in New York in June. The items will be on display at SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, 13-14th March and at Sotheby's London from 21-15th March.
