Lady Gaga made headlines in the Hamptons last summer when she arrived as Marina Abramovic's surprise date to The Watermill Center's rather decadent summer benefit gala. Avant-garde theater and dance director Robert Wilson, founder of the Watermill Art Center has studied famous pop culture artists for the past decade, his subjects have included famous figures such as Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Salma Hayek, Isabella Rossellini and Macaulay Culkin. Wilson's most recent oeuvre is simply titled 23 Video Portraits of Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga is captured in each video in trademark dress; elaborately styled costumes and make-up. She is set to backdrops which echo classical art works, including Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres's 1806 painting Portrait of Mademoiselle Caroline Rivière and Jacques-Louis David's 1793 painting Death of Marat.

The series premiered at the Louvre last November and will be on view at the Hamptons Art Center from 26th July through to 14th September. The exhibition opening coincides with this year's Watermill Center Summer benefit One Thousand Nights and One Night.
