The stamp sold for $9.5 million to an anonymous buyer at Sotheby's New York on Tuesday, although it was rumoured to fetch up to $20 million dollars the stamp sold far above the price of its predecessor in expensive stamps, the Three Skilling Banco from Sweden that sold for $2.2 million in 1996.
