The auction at Phillips totalled $31.7 million (£24.4 million) a figure close to $33 million (£25.4 million) the total high estimate for the night. Only two lots failed to find a buyer, resulting in an impressive sell-through rate of 94%.

A new record was set for German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, as the 2004 piece Freischwimmer #84 sold for $786 000 (£605 000) with fees. This sum was marginally higher than the price paid for a Tillmans piece in Sotheby's auction the night before. Sales of the artist's work continues to go from strength to strength on the secondary market, following a retrospective at London's Tate Modern and the Beyeler Foundation in Riehen, Switzerland.
