Sea Quadrant, Lot 118 Sea Quadrant, Lot 118

A sea quadrant,  built for taking the altitude of the sun and the latitude at sea, manufactured by reknowned instrument maker George Adams in 1751 was the top lot of the sale.

The carved rosewood piece had a signed boxwood scale original box with an original maker’s label, retailer’s card and most special and unusual of all, a telescope to combine with the mica viewing window. This interesting combination coupled with the instrument’s rarity and fine original condition ultimately caused a bidding frenzy that surpassed its pre-sales estimate ending at the net final price of $24,250.
