Last year Jeff Koons set the world auction record for any living artist with Balloon Dog (Orange), which sold at Christie's for $58,405,000. This year, Christie's will auction another one of Koons' pieces, Balloon Monkey (Orange). This piece has an estimated value of $20,000,000-30,000,000 and will be on display for six weeks before it is sold.

Executed between 2006-2013, the piece stands 13 feet tall and 20 feet wide, looming over spectators as the chromium stainless steel catches their reflections. Balloon Monkey (Orange) is one of five statues, its mates have the colors red, magenta, blue and yellow. The monkey is the latest in Koons' balloon animal series, he has previously erected Balloon Dog, Balloon Swan and Balloon Rabbit. Each series takes between 5 – 8 years to complete, always in a sequence of five pieces in five vibrant colors.

The piece goes on display on October 6 at Christie's Rockefeller Plaza Headquarters, and will remain until it is sold as part of their Post-War and Contemporary Art auction on November 12. If you're in the area, don't miss this amazing opportunity to bask in the orange glow of this monumental monkey.
