The chair has hand-painted decorations by Rowling and features the phrases: "O you may not find me pretty, but don't judge on what you see," which of course die-hard fans will recognise as the Sorting Hat's opening lines in the first book. The chair also reads: "I wrote Harry Potter while sitting on this chair" and "Gryffindor" as well as Rowling's signature and lightning bolts.

Although the buyer has so far remained anonymous, the vendor Gerald Gray, stated to the BBC: ''I plan to donate 10 percent to JK Rowling's charity, Lumos, because that's what she did in the first place."
