Paradis magazine David Hockney by Juergen Teller

Photographers juggling commercial work for A-list clients while maintaining a fine art practice are by no means unique but one of those who have done it so very successfully is German born, cooler-than-thou, Juergen Teller. If you're not getting any visuals in your head right about now, you're very likely to have seen his visually understated snapshot-like work with slightly faded colours for Marc Jacobs for whom he's helmed numerous campaigns (and lately also for Céline) over the years. Aside from his work having appeared in nearly every high profile magazine there is, he also exhibits with Lehmann Maupin in NYC and Hong Kong.

Some years ago, we were lucky to catch his fifth solo show Paradis at the gallery. The show exhibited a series of works of his two muses, the always cooler-than-thou Charlotte Rampling (<3), and model Raquel Zimmermann in their birthday suits together at Le Louvre (!) in Paris. I remember seeing the entire series in the fashion publication Paradis prior to the show thinking; "only for a handful!"

Note to Santa: I've not been great all year but I really tried my best, so please let me find one of Teller's books neatly wrapped underneath the tree this year. Thank you! Love, K.
