Ferner, noun

A ferner isn’t someone from another country. It’s typically a footed pot meant to hold fernery (plants) and used as a special decorative pot. The object pictured her is a very rare Old Paris porcelain mechanical ferner, 19 ½ inches tall and made from the highest quality, hand-painted porcelain. The piece features a bird and floral décor with gold trim highlights, with a vintage flower arrangement atop the ferner. The pièce de résistance is the mechanical bird on a perch, which is operated by a key-wound mechanism. Everything is in full working condition.

The ferner is lot #125 in a large and ambitious auction packed with 400 lots of antiques and collectibles in a variety of categories – to include art glass, antique clocks, Newcomb Pottery pieces, Chinese enamel, beautiful vintage lamps and more – planned for Saturday, October 7th, by Woody Auction, online and at the Woody Auction gallery in Douglass, Kansas, starting at 9:30 am Central time. The sale will feature quality items hand-selected from several small collections around the country. Everything will be sold without reserve.
