Anyone following Major League Baseball today is aware of Aaron Judge, the rookie phenom on the New York Yankees who’s enjoying such a monster season he may end up winning baseball’s Triple Crown (highest totals for batting average, home runs and RBIs). The sports collectibles industry is well aware of Judge’s heroics. Consider the card presented on the left here: lot #3 in Small Traditions’ auction currently online and set to end July 8th. It’s Judge’s Bowman rookie card from 2013, signed by him and BGS-graded highly at 9.5. The card had a minimum bid of $2,500 and at press time had reached $6,000.

The final figure should go well beyond that, into the five figures, said Dave Thorn, owner of Small Traditions, based in Denver. For baseball purists who prefer more vintage fare, there’s the card on the right: lot #26, a 1967 Dexter Press Premiums Mickey Mantle card, PSA-graded 9. It was one in a set of cards that collectors could receive in exchange for soda bottle caps. The card had a starting bid of $1,000 and a current bid (at press time) of $1,495. Small Traditions holds online auctions every other month and specializes in two areas: unusual regional cards and sports items, and highly graded rookie cards and modern cards.
