Phillips have unveiled the catalog for the Photography Auction in London on November 18, revealing a stunning lineup of important pieces, rare portfolios and fashion photography by prominent artists such as Richard Avedon, Diane Arbus, and Robert Mapplethorpe. The auction house has also announced ULTIMATE, a new sale section comprised of only the last print of an image. The artists featured in the new section include established artists such as Rodney Graham and Erwin Olaf, but also feature emerging talent like Denise Grunstein and Cooper & Gorfer.

The auction highlights includes works by Peter Beard, Erwin Blumenfeld and Irving Penn as well as a rare portfolio Helmut Newton photographs.

Penn's photograph first appeared in the June 1950 edition of Vogue, a different shot from the same session graced the cover.

The portfolio includes photographs taken in the mid 1970's in several different countries. The locations mainly focus on private homes as well as outdoors, Phillips catalog essay includes a quote from Newton stating his dislike for studio photography: "A woman does not spend her life sitting or standing in front of a seamless white paper background" Helmut Newton (excerpt from quote in Phillips Photography Auction catalog).

Peter Beard kept diaries ever since he was a young boy, the presented lot is a page featuring photographs, feathers and paint. The reversal includes the artist signature and date, as well as extensive notes.
