Korine's Blue Checker was part of the New York Gagosian Gallery's Shooters exhibition in 2014.

Korine is widely known for his work on the cult movie Kids, 1995 and Spring Breakers, 2012, which starred James Franco.

Korine was reportedly skating in Washington Square Park when Larry Clark spotted him and asked hime to write a script about skaters and the teenage AIDS crisis of the time. Korine wrote Kids in just 3 weeks and his career was launched.

Now the director is celebrated for his art as he has been featured in shows in New York, Belgium and at the 2003 Venice Biennale.

Police confirmed to the New York Post the painting was stolen.
