The special sale is themed ''The Artist's Muse.'' The inclusion of the Modigliani makes the sale even more special as this is the first time a Modigliani piece has been at auction. Christie's has given the work an estimate of $100 million or over, with the current record for Modigliani's work standing at $70.7 million.

Christie's global president and chief auctioneer Jussi Pylkkänen said: "This is quite simply one of the most important paintings I have handled in my long career at Christie's. There are a very small number of masterpieces that we dream of handling: this magnificent Modigliani has always been one of them."
