Lena Cronqvist (1938-) Sweden

Lena Cronqvist is a Swedish painter and sculptor who studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts & Design and the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Her breakthrough came in the 1970s with artwork that completely broke away from the political art that was popular at the time; instead, family and motherhood were themes of her work. Cronqvist’s art can be described as concrete and expressive with psychologically compelling elements. She often uses herself as a model, and her motifs allow for universal interpretations despite their private nature. Lena Cronqvist is one of Sweden’s highest paid contemporary artists and she has done several public installations.
